We recognize that package theft has been a significant issue in recent years, especially in the City of Philadelphia. The majority of the buildings we manage were also those that we developed and much thought and consideration has went into secure access, package rooms, etc.
That said, we recognize issues can still happen and there is only so much anyone can control.
We’ve put together a few best practices and considerations to keep in mind as it relates to package thefts.
Camera Footage – as a company policy, we can only review and release surveillance footage that is associated with criminal activity and a filed police report.
Secure Access – do not take for granted that the person entering behind you is also a resident. Take a moment to ask that they are a resident and if something feels out of sorts, please contact our office. Each authorized resident will always have the ability to let themselves in on there own and should never need to rely on a door being held for them.
Package Area – although each building will have a designated area, not all couriers will enter regardless of the instructions you may have provided. If you find this to be the case once with a specific courier, we recommend trying an alternative shipping location such as a friend / family member’s address or secure pick-up facility.
Administrative / Delivery Errors – if your package has been marked as “delivered” by the carrier, we typically suggest waiting a day or so for administrative errors to clear up and be certain a package was wrongfully taken. We have seen instances of couriers suggesting something was delivered by a driver but isn’t actually placed on-site until later that day. Further, checking photo receipt provided and checking to see it was delivered to the right address could also be helpful.
If we receive multiple complaints in a short amount of time and have reason to believe that there is a larger issue with package theft, we will do our best to designate more time to the manner. This can typically be the case around the holiday season or a known issue with poor use / distribution of access code by one individual in the building.
